*This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Monitors and records the after hours condition and security of research animals. Monitors the security of facilities, grounds, and vehicles and follows the appropriate procedures for handling intruders, trespassers or unauthorized activities. Observes the general condition of primate housing and notifies appropriate staff for the need for repairs or modifications. Checks heating, cooling, and water systems and the general building conditions to ensure a safe and comfortable environment. Participates in specialized animal care and feeding, and administers medications and diets following veterinary protocol. Monitors and records health and physical condition of animals. Notifies professional personnel of conditions warranting attention. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent and four years of animal husbandry/care experience OR certification as Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) and four years of animal husbandry/care experience OR six years of animal husbandry/care experience. The ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Positions in this classification may require a valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record.
