*This is an Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid a salary on a monthly basis and are not eligible to receive overtime pay.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Serves as a principal writer for communications produced by a business unit including news releases, articles for publications, web pages, media advisories, and strategic communications plans. Identifies and writes news releases and articles for publications. Writes and/or edits materials consistent with the business unit's strategic plan and business objectives. Contributes content to the communications team and helps coordinate coverage to serve the strategic communications needs of the business unit. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and three years of professional experience in regional or national news media, higher education or a related environment. Outstanding skills in writing, editing, interviewing, and oral presentation. Must have the ability to organize, set priorities, and manage several projects at once with minimal supervision. Must demonstrate the ability to write journalistically at a sophisticated level, including mastery of the English language and the possession of a well-developed news sense.
