JOB DESCRIPTION: **This is a central university office position** Designs, plans, tests, installs and maintains enterprise-wide network systems with a specific focus on voice, data or transport. Investigates and recommends improvements for enhancing existing technologies. Evaluates new hardware and software. Mentors and coaches Infrastructure staff to provide network troubleshooting methodologies. Responsible for adherence to standards and networking technologies. Supports complex enterprise infrastructure projects for internetworking technologies and associated systems. Responsible for service transition by ensuring the service is properly documented and staff members are ready to take operational responsibility. Supports continual service improvements to define specific initiatives aimed at improving services and processes. Participates in 24 x 7 on-call rotation to diagnose and solve escalated enterprise-wide issues. Coordinates with Emory departments to review and evaluate new infrastructure design needs. Supports project management teams to provide testing and evaluations and to coordinate new systems installations. Responds to system alarms from network, transport, and service monitoring systems to resolve issues. Performs site visits and surveys network trouble spots to assess and correct issues. Prepares, configures and replaces faulty network and transport devices to maintain service levels. Responds to escalated network outage reports to determine root causes and to generate and execute plans for restoring service. Performs vendor-requested diagnostic functions to assist with resolving hardware, software and configuration problems. Participates in application and service level troubleshooting with UTS teams to provide Architecture group input and to assist with diagnosing and resolving problems. Participates in Architecture management and team member meetings to identify new and evolving enterprise needs. Contributes to brainstorming and collaborates with team members to determine solutions. Documents and diagrams solutions to provide references. Assists with preparing hardware configuration for deployment to expand capacity and replace faulty equipment. Contributes to firewall rules and roles to meet enterprise-wide security group requirements and to support user connectivity. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma and two years of relevant IT experience with servers and networks, OR and equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
