JOB DESCRIPTION: **This is a central university office position** Installs, maintains, and supports Emory Enterprise network servers, hardware installation, maintenance and support. Applies an expert understanding of networking, storage, security, hardware, operating systems (OS) and virtualization to design and architect solutions for meeting complex system requirements. Provides technical leadership for customers and enterprise management to explain and simplify technical computing concepts and to present the latest technologies. Supports enterprise functions and maintains virtualized platforms and servers. Supports and performs OS patching, backups, restorations, performance tuning and troubleshooting. Builds and maintains relationships with vendors and customers to design solutions and hardware platforms for meeting enterprise-wide needs. Provides systems administration expertise to support customers and solve IT issues. Utilizes the IT Service Management System to communicate with customers to provide technical expertise. Interacts with the Security group to provides updates, monitor systems, remediate vulnerabilities and to ensure system and application readiness. Advises OS and hardware installation, maintenance, monitoring and support of enterprise-wide applications and system maintenance. Performs server patches to ensure OS bug fixes, improvements and security fixes are up-to-date. Provides system administration support to database administrators and developers to ensure service level expectations are met. Sets up and monitors system back-ups to minimize risk of accidental data loss. Configures monitoring tools to alert administrators and communicate critical issues. Performs post-mortem problem investigations to identify and correct inconsistencies and problems with OS and application installations. Maintains UNIX systems to ensure high levels of system uptime. Configures applications and services to support enterprise-wide applications. Performs server patches to ensure OS bug fixes, improvements and security fixes are up-to-date. Utilizes network management systems monitoring tools to ensure system health and uptime. Monitors the virtualization system management program to ensure VM health and uptime. Designs hardware solutions to utilize technology and software for the enterprise effectively. Provides enterprise-wide technical direction to support effective decision-making. Interacts with enterprise-wide departments to ensure effective hardware and software acquisitions, service levels and value. Studies new OS improvements and fixes to support and maintain UTS systems. Leads study groups to contribute to UTS technology decisions and direction. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in IT or related field and five years of relevant IT experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. DATE REVIEWED/CREATED/MODIFIED: 11/12/10 JB
