JOB DESCRIPTION: *This is a central university office position.* Responsible for post award processing of grants and contracts. Serves as a lead technical expert in sponsored research accounting. Supervises four or more full-time professional staff and provides guidance in day-to-day tasks and assignments. Develops policies and procedures for research accounting practices; routinely provides policy and procedure interpretation to academic departments. Ensures that sponsored program information is accurately recorded in financial system for assigned area of grants and contracts (approximately $150m - $250m annually). Responsible for the accuracy and oversight of the preparation and timely submission of invoices and financial reports to federal and non-federal sponsors for assigned area. Responsible for oversight of the closeout process per requirements of sponsors and Emory systems. Develops and delivers research administration training sessions to the University research community. Responsible for the development of queries and reports on the financial system to monitor timely reporting, invoicing and management of other key areas (as well as assist staff in managing their workloads). Develops job-aides which detail how staff members complete tasks in University financial system. Works closely with other OGCA Associate Directors to ensure consistency in application of principles and work functions. Works closely with departmental and school representatives to ensure issues are well communicated and appropriate individuals are involved in decisions. Works closely with the school/divisional/departmental business managers to resolve contractual issues and communicates with sponsors to ensure compliance with contract regulations and reporting requirements. Monitors work loads of staff and ensure equity in distribution of work. Works closely with Sponsored Programs office, divisional business office to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements to which grants and contracts are subject. Acts as a representative of the OGCA Director in that individual's absence. This is a central job, reporting to the Office of Grants & Contracts Accounting (OGCA). Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting or Finance and seven years professional accounting experience including a minimum of two years in sponsored programs/research accounting. A master's degree in Business Administration and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
