JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Director, Residence Life, serves the Emory University community (students, deans, faculty, administrators, and department heads) in planning educational programs, facilitating the delivery of Residence Life, custodial, and maintenance services, supervising undergraduate and graduate staff, and responding to resident behavior. Focusing on first-year, second-year, or upper-division students, the position strives to balance student requests, preferences, and needs with administrative policies, procedures, and priorities. Significant contact exists between this position and students, student staff, families as well as other Campus Life and University departments. Responsibilities include: managing the daily operation of approximately 6-8 undergraduate residence hall buildings that house approximately 1300 residents; supervising 4-6 professional staff members and in-directly supervise approximately 80 Resident Advisors (RAs) and Sophomore Advisors (SAs). Assisting with the recruitment, interview process, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Advisors (RAs), Sophomore Advisors (SAs), and professional staff as a part of the Residence Life team. Managing a residence hall programming budget totaling approximately $40,000. Leading the First Year at Emory, Second Year at Emory, or Junior/Senior Years at Emory programs that facilitate academic and social integration for residential students. Working to manage, recruit, and coordinate with theme living-learning communities programs. Serving as a liaison with offices on campus including: the Career Center, Counseling Center, Student Health Center, University Police, and Student Conduct. Overseeing the management of crises and major resident problems, including but not limited to safety and security issues, mental health issues, health concerns, academic adjustment, missing students, vandalism and noise violations, and roommate conflicts. Advocating for student concerns, requests, and issues. Explaining University policy, rationale, and priorities to students and student staff. Teaching EDS 472G, Peer Counseling for Resident Advisors. Serving in rotation of on-call professionals responding to emergencies of all on and off campus students, graduate and undergraduate. Serving as a conduct and hearing officer for the Office of Student Conduct. Representing Residence Life & Housing at a variety of campus events including admission and orientation sessions as well as signature university events. Attending Residence Life Staff Meetings, Department and Division meetings. Managing a major summer project such as summer school housing, Pre-College, assessment, etc. Serving on various Campus Life and university-wide committees. In support of the vision of Residence Life & Housing, serving and managing a collateral assignment, which would include; staff training, educational initiatives, assessment, performance evaluations, or the faculty-in-residence program. In support of the mission of the Division of Campus Life, participating in all required programs and events including staff meetings, leadership retreats, and programs. Participating in continuing education opportunities and maintain involvement in national organizations. Assists summer conference staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling or related area and 3 years of full-time residential life or related experience. Must live in a residence hall or other on-campus housing facility. Thorough understanding of the role and purpose of a residence life program in a middle size, coeducational, residential, private, liberal arts university and should have experience in developmental programming, staff selection and training, supervision of staff, student leadership and administration.
