JOB DESCRIPTION: The Senior Director of Business and Finance is a proactive leader who provides effective change management leadership and organized prioritization of finance initiatives and people leadership for a school or major organizational unit. Serves as a trusted advisor to the Chief Business Officer (CBO) to optimize staff engagement throughout the finance department and school/unit. Improves the school/unit use and understanding of all available financial resources with a focus on user success, change management and lowering the transaction processing effort and cost. Reports to the CBO/top financial leader for the school/unit. The Senior Director of Business and Finance is responsible for resolving financial issues. Plans, administers, and monitors the financial and operational policies and procedures and is responsible for all areas of financial planning and analysis; this includes developing financial and business plans, driving the forecasting process, partnering with and providing strategic support to senior leaders, and driving analyses for key business issues and operational metric reporting. Develops standard operating procedures for the school/unit. Reviews and critiques standard operating procedures and related business process/workflow maps with a focused approach in process improvement and change management; coordinates reviews with the system users. Collaborates with others to facilitate projects and ensures timelines and action plans are accomplished. May represent the school/unit in external financial or business activities. Provides leadership and participates in long-range strategic, operational, and financial planning, trending, and budgeting. Responsible for all the unit's budgets and assists in the preparation of the annual budget for the school/unit. Meets with the unit directors and discusses goal alignment and budget requirements. Responsible for the preparation of annual financial budget and internal monthly financial analysis including reports of operating results against budget. In collaboration with the unit directors, prepares short- and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance. Ensures accurate interpretation and analysis of financial results, while also providing analyses, interpretation, and justification of budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans. Participates in the development of the school/unit's plans and programs as a tactical partner by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, project proposals and business trends to assist the CBO and other leaders. Oversees the research and analysis of incoming issues using available resources with a focus on identifying proactive solutions to improving effectiveness of the process. Oversees the development of monthly briefing books for the CBO to highlight activities with the finance department; these will include both operational and financial reports. Drives financial success for the school/department/unit through assessment of financial goals and business opportunities. Analyzes the school's/unit's endowments and recommends ideas on the appropriate use of the endowment income funds. Ensures endowment income for scholarships are awarded on a timely basis in line with the funding balance. Oversees communication, staff engagement initiatives and professional development for finance professionals. Oversees guidance to the school/unit community on how to use and interpret finance systems activity. Hires, supervises and develops staff with a focus on high performance, collaboration and problem solving. Ensures accurate interpretation and analysis of financial results, while also providing analyses, interpretation, and justification of budgets, forecasts, and long-range plans. Participates in the development of the school's plans and programs as a tactical partner by providing timely and accurate analyses of budgets, project proposals and business trends to assist the CBO and other school leaders. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, or finance. Eight years of related financial experience. Positions in this classification may require a Certified Public Accountant. Previous supervisory experience.
