*This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under general direction of the veterinarians or research personnel, performs a variety of specialized and complex medical treatments, research procedures, data collection, and surgeries on research and laboratory animals. Uses independent judgement in assessing need for veterinary intervention. May assist in protocol design, may coordinate research projects or specialized area of technical service. May supervise other veterinary technicians. Plans and schedules research and veterinary medical procedures. Demonstrates and trains others in proper techniques and use of equipment. Monitors animals for illness and injury. Contributes to the maintenance of facility compliance with federal animal and research regulations. Maintains animal records and inventory. Assists in capture and restraint of animals. Trains new veterinary and/or animal care technicians. As a technical specialist, consistently produces quality work while demonstrating exceptional ability or knowledge in areas of specialization such as interventional/preventative veterinary medical care, anesthesiology, quarantine, or health surveillance. Performs related responsibilities as required. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take special precautions against and/or be immunized against hazardous agents. Certification at LAT level preferred.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Requires two years of occupational specific training from a college or university or an associate's degree in biology or related field, and six years of veterinary technical experience with a minimum of three years in a laboratory animal setting. A bachelor's degree in science or related field and four years veterinary technical experience with a minimum of three years in a laboratory animal setting. Certification at the LATg level by AALAS may be substituted for the educational requirement but requires five years veterinary technical experience. Veterinary technical certification by the Georgia licensing board may substitute for the educational requirement but requires six years veterinary technical experience with three years in the laboratory animal setting. Equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. A valid Georgia's divers license and an insurable driving record. |
