*This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Greets and welcomes all students (patients) to Student Health Services, and checks patients in using the Point N Click kiosk and EMR. Presents any appropriate paperwork to patient. Verifies and collects insurance information to be added to Point N Click EMR (Open Registration); makes electronic copy of insurance card, if provided. Verifies the accuracy of patient demographics and insurance information, updating PnC when available. Notifies clinical staff of patient arrival status. May arrange transportation for students to Emory Healthcare ER when appropriate. Reviews all appointments prior to patient arrival for appropriateness, completeness, and resolves any issues. Checks out patient ensuring all PnC and Emory University financial requirements have been fulfilled. Schedules walk-in appointments and prepares any necessary paperwork. This position contains technical aspects, but requires high-level customer service skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and decision-making skills. This position plays a key role in the revenue cycle process. May be asked to register patients in the Emory Healthcare GPR system for radiology or other specialist appointments as indicated. Complies with all clinic and University policies and procedures. May generate reports in PnC related to patient care, appointment status, or financial status. Answers and directs incoming calls according to EUSHS guidelines. Attends training classes and meetings as scheduled. Collects all payments according to EUSHS/EUSHIP and insurance company guidelines, and enters into PnC (Open Billing). Identifies and processes case-specific billing requirements (Medicaid, Blue Cross) and creates billing notes in PnC. Balances and closes batches by the end of each day. Maintains close working relationships with other departments within Campus Life, Emory University, and Emory Healthcare to ensure effective communication of important issues, identifying problems, and troubleshoots to facilitate good patient care and follow-up. Performs other duties as requested by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A high school diploma or equivalent, and one year of customer service experience; at least six months of experience in a medical office setting is preferred. Basic typing and good communication skills. An associate's or bachelor's degree in health information management or related field is preferred.
