JOB DESCRIPTION: This is a central job, reporting to the Office for Clinical Research (OCR). Serves as the principal manager responsible for the seamless service delivery of pre-award and/or post-award financial management of clinical trials, and may include: providing authoritative expertise and regulatory guidance on complex issues, operational goals, business strategies, ethical considerations, and institutional policies related to research billing compliance and the financial management of clinical trials; establishing and directing clinical trial financial policies and procedures integral to ensuring an environment that promotes compliant research management; collaborating with internal and external customers to develop and evaluate services for the improvement of the financial management of clinical trials and the delivery of superior customer service using standard organizational-wide guidelines; developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive and strategic continuous quality improvement program for all research programs within OCR; managing the development and negotiation of clinical trial budgets with non-federal sponsors; managing the detailed analysis of industry clinical trial accounts for invoicing, accounts receivable, and accounts payable; advising principal investigators, researchers, and physician leadership in the compliant fiscal conduct of all projects; and/or, fostering productive teamwork through training, managing, and mentoring OCR management and staff in daily responsibilities. As an integral member of the senior leadership team of the Office for Clinical Research, serves as a liaison and consultant for senior leadership in the OCR and other departments regarding the financial management of clinical trials conducted by Emory University faculty and Emory Healthcare employed physicians and staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in healthcare, business, finance or related field and ten years of leadership experience demonstrating increasing responsibility in one or more areas related to the research infrastructure (e.g., clinical trials, sponsored research, research strategic planning). Master's degree preferred. Demonstrated leadership in an educational and research institution; and an ability to understand and address clinical research administration initiatives in an academic health center. Must have an understanding and familiarity with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regulations, FDA regulations, and NIH requirements as they apply to research. A working knowledge of clinical trial budget preparation, financial management, and medical terminology. Completion of the Quality Academy course within two years of hire/promotion. Certification in Healthcare Research Compliance through the Health Care Compliance Association within two years of hire/promotion.
