*This is an Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid a salary on a monthly basis and are not eligible to receive overtime pay.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Collaborates with department chair or director to develop strategic goals for the department or business unit. Plans and prepares projections for management of unit operations and associated costs. Represents the department or business unit at meetings or other events. Oversees the operational components of the departmental curriculum. Oversees communications, including website and social media content, newsletters, correspondence with faculty, students, alumni, and community outreach. Oversees the promotion and tenure procedures/process for department faculty. Serves as the knowledge expert for all things related to the administrative operation of the department. Leads the day-to-day operations, personnel and fiscal activities for an academic department or business unit with minimal direction from the Chair. Oversees the financial components of the department including sponsored (in collaboration with CAPS RAS) and non-sponsored accounts. Prepares contract budgets, proposals, status reports and/or financial statements. Addresses employee issues/concerns. Collaborates with Human Resources to recommend and develop an appropriate course of action. Responds to inquiries and/complaints from faculty, staff, students, parents, outside agencies and/or public which require interpretation of policies and procedures. Hires, supervises and evaluates two or more regular staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in business administration or a field related to department's area of specialty and seven years of administrative experience, five years of which are in a managerial or supervisory capacity, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. At least one year prior experience in a lead staff role at Emory (example: as a regular ADA or Asst Director, Programs).
