JOB DESCRIPTION: **This is a central university office position** Builds and maintains databases for Emory Enterprise-wide applications. Provides technical support to enterprise infrastructure and application databases in development and production environments. Manages, monitors, and tunes databases to resolve database issues and ensures delivery of optimal database performance. Interacts with application owners to explain and resolve technical issues and create efficiencies. Builds development and production databases to support enterprise applications. Documents installation processes to ensure application database requirements are captured. Reviews database installation details to ensure Emory IT standards are met. Creates tables, indexes, and database objects to support business functions and processes. Implements security roles to and assigns privileges to manage database access and protect data. Performs rotating on-call duties to support enterprise-wide applications. Monitors logs and scripts and troubleshoots database environments to identify and resolve problems and to maintain availability. Responds to database and application incidents to determine problems and escalate issues to database team members and vendors. Monitors database exports and database clones to ensure completion and to meet application service level agreements for development environment availability. Escalates issues to utilize team technical resources and to ensure service standards are met. Interacts with development teams and customers to determine database issues. Evaluates slow queries to recommend methods for increasing processing efficiency. Monitors database operation to identify user performance issues. Tunes database parameters to ensure database resources availability. Schedules back-ups to ensure data continuity and service level expectations are met. Utilizes back-ups to perform database refreshes, update databases for development teams and to test back-up recoverability. Assists with upgrades to ensure application databases function properly. Patches databases to ensure Emory IT standards are met. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in IT or related field and two years of relevant IT experience in database administration that includes developing application queries or stored procedures, OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. |
