JOB DESCRIPTION: **This is a central university office position** Manages data, voice, video and wireless communication systems and services operations. Coordinates the implementation of these communication services into the production environment. Performs capacity measurement and planning for central communications infrastructures and manages resolution of data, video, voice and wireless issues. Participates in the Network Engineering strategic planning process. Maintains vendor relationships and participates in contract development and negotiation. Manages the department budget and prepares reports for enterprise management. Manages people resources and processes to administer day-to-day operations. Identifies individual and team skill gaps and developmental opportunities to facilitate career development. Ensures direct and indirect reports have documented career goals and detailed plans for achieving these goals to develop these individuals professionally. Conducts performance evaluations consistently and fairly to facilitate open communication and encourage continuous performance improvement. Manages team compliance with OIT policies and procedures to meet ITIL and enterprise requirements and expectations. Provides technical expertise to support team collaboration for resolving issues and meeting customer expectations. Interacts with OIT resources to promote the department's role and to ensure adherence to IT governance and ITSM processes for achieving enterprise-wide efficiencies. Evaluates and summarizes departmental metrics to measure performance and forecast future needs. Manages breaks and fixes to maintain enterprise-wide service availability. Responds to customer inquiries to assist Network Engineering staff with delivering quality customer service. Interacts with Technical Operations Center activities to ensure proper Network Engineering resources are assigned and to ensure service levels are maintained. Provides technical expertise to assist Network Engineering staff with analyzing and resolving voice, data, video and wireless equipment and device issues. Monitors the on-call rotation to ensure 24x7 service availability. Conducts routine vendor meetings to maintain partnerships with the enterprise's major vendors. Oversees contractor work agreements to comply with budget requirements and to ensure work quality standards are enforced. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in IT or related field and seven years of IT experience that includes managing technical teams responsible for the operation of large communication systems (data and voice), OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. Knowledge of communications principles, transmission techniques and mediums, data switching systems and local area networks. Experience developing management objectives and managing large budgets, preferably over $1 million. A valid Georgia driver's license and an insurable driving record. |
