JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Head of Software Development in the Library Technology and Digital Strategies department, the Software Developer III will contribute to the development of digital library services, including the institution's preservation repository. Supports Emory University Libraries' mission and vision by creating and maintaining software and web application solutions within a collaborative, cross-functional agile development team led by the Lead Software Developer. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards, and relevant policies and procedures. Resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods, and techniques to obtain results. May lead development on projects. Provides software development and support. Generates software specifications and design to meet business needs. Participates in software testing and subsequent modifications. Writes performant code in a manner consistent with the team's style and best practices. Works as part of an agile team to design, implement and revise software applications. Stays abreast of the "state of the art" through self and group study. Writes and edits reports to provide recommendations, conclusions, and other data. Mentors junior developers. Serves as subject matter expert on projects. Serves as technical lead on projects. Maintains up-to-date professional knowledge and skills in areas related to primary job assignment as well as maintains general knowledge of current trends in higher education, academic libraries, and information and educational technology. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six years equivalent combination of education, training, and experience OR a bachelor's degree in computer science, math, engineering, or a related field and four years of experience. Knowledge of software development in a research institution context preferred. |
