JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Winship Chief Informatics and Data Officer (CIDO), the Assistant Director of Research Informatics oversees various aspects of large and complex data driven cancer research projects between Winship and collaborating departments and institutions. Is engaged in sustainable analytics and informatics solutions to deliver actionable insights for multiple stakeholders at the cancer center. Supports overall management, technical development, implementation, personnel and budget involved in projects. Assists in building partnerships and relationships between the various stakeholders at Winship and collaborating sites. Develops short and long term goals and objectives. Oversees related special projects as part of Winship initiatives. As appropriate, represents the program in various venues which may include local, regional, national settings. Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations, as needed. Establishes and administers policies and procedures. Hires, supervises and evaluates staff. Supports development and implementation of Winship strategy for analytics and informatics capabilities while establishing processes and tools for good data management practices. Plans and directs information technology (IT) projects. Serves as a liaison between the research/data and technical aspects of assigned projects. Works collaboratively with research teams to ensure a shared understanding of business objectives and defines what new insights are needed to support these objectives. Manages relationships with various stakeholders- operational and research leaders, including coordination and communication for timely delivery of project goals. Provides technical leadership for design and implementation of applications, including requirements analysis and system specification while ensuring accurate translation of research problems and requirements into an information system solution following best practices. Is a champion for a data driven culture and effectively interfaces across various teams at Winship to implement change management. Establishes an environment that stimulates innovation and creativity to best support cancer research and care. Assists Winship CIDO in strategic planning, development, resource planning and operations for assigned components of large initiatives. Manages a team of analysts and project managers, including hiring, training, assigning and overseeing the work delivered. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree and seven years of experience in information technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A master's degree and experience working in a health, research, or academic institution preferred. Knowledge of data and information systems standards relevant to the field of biomedical informatics and health systems. Project management experience preferred.
