*This is an Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid a salary on a monthly basis and are not eligible to receive overtime pay.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Markets early stage University developed technology and research to industry. Performs market analyses to determine the value of patents. Identifies potential corporations that might be interested in licensing the University's existing unlicensed or newly patented technologies and determines the appropriate license. Negotiates terms and conditions, including royalties, with potential licensees. Monitors licensee's obligations to meet milestones in marketing technologies. Ensures that royalty payments are made according to licensing agreements and distributes royalties to appropriate entities. Analyzes disclosures to ensure they have been accurately completed by the inventor(s). Determines if disclosures meet U.S. Patent Laws to qualify for a patent and if federal funding has been involved in the development of the invention. Ascertains the status of published results or anticipated publications on the invention and evaluates the commercial value of the invention. Reviews existing grants and contracts for new technologies that might be emerging from research. Discloses software and copyrights by faculty, identifies and reviews existing and new contracts with industry software programs and files the copyright registration with the Department of Commerce. Manages accounts associated with patent, copyright and licensing areas. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A PhD OR JD OR a master's degree and one year of patent and/or licensing experience. Education and/or work experience in health sciences and business/industry is desirable. |
