JOB DESCRIPTION: Serves as the chief spiritual officer for an assigned entity or program and is responsible for management, leadership, and administration of the work of chaplains, training of chaplains, staff care and support, continuing pastoral education, and clinical pastoral education programs. Manages quality of spiritual care provided to patients, families, and staff within an assigned entity or program. Works together with the Executive Director for Spiritual Health and the Emory University Center for Ethics to create opportunities to influence the institution's mission and integration of ethical values into patient care delivery. Collaborates closely with various levels of management within the senior leadership of the entity assigned, the Woodruff Health Sciences Center, and The Emory Clinic to manage successfully all chaplaincy and administrative staff personnel issues of the assigned healthcare organization. Serves as Senior Chaplain for assigned hospital within Emory Healthcare monitoring, staffing, and controlling the comprehensive, integrated resources for spiritual care for the hospital or clinic. Prepares and reports appropriate data to Emory Healthcare leadership to monitor performance and progress of key initiatives and plans. Develops implements and evaluates pastoral education programs including clinical pastoral education, supervised ministry, advanced clinical pastoral education and community clergy educational programs. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in divinity. Seven (7) years of experience in ministry with demonstrated competence in pastoral care. Certified as an Association for Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) Associate Supervisor and ordination or endorsement by an acknowledged ecclesiastical body. Academic medical center experience preferred. Hospital-based positions require previous health care experience in the appropriate pastoral care area such as mental health, geriatrics, or pediatrics, and may require certification by one or more certifying agencies. Academic medical center experience preferred.
