JOB DESCRIPTION: Reporting to the Dean of Religious Life, the Associate Chaplain supports the dean in providing overall support for spiritual life at the university by providing support for a specific large and complex campus religious or philosophical community, or for several smaller but complex programs.
Provides outreach to organize the community and develops leadership groups. Collaboratively assesses needs and develops short and long-term goals. Collaboratively plans, develops, and implements complex and high-quality spiritual life programming including weekly gatherings, holiday observances, retreats, service and social justice projects, and fellowship events. Provides pastoral care and leadership in invocations, memorial services, vigils, and other rituals as needed. Provides education and trainings for particular and general audiences. Participates and shares leadership in departmental and interfaith initiatives.
Meets regularly with the Dean, the department, and designated department partners. Collaborates with Associate Vice Presidents and Associate Deans, serves as a departmental liaison with assigned schools, units, and committees. Connects the campus with local, regional, national, and international opportunities and resources. Plans and monitors program budgets. Composes outreach letters, communications, and reports. Administers policies and procedures. May consult on enterprise issues related to admissions, space, dining, residential life, alumni, etc. May supervise staff and volunteers. May participate in advancement and alumni engagement. Performs related responsibilities as required. The associate chaplain is expected to support a pluralistic approach to the tradition served.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master's degree in divinity, theology, religion, philosophy, ethics, or a related field and five years of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. |
