*This is a Non-Exempt position. Employees in this position are paid an hourly pay rate, on a bi-weekly basis, and are eligible to receive overtime pay for any hours worked over 40 in a work week.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Designs, fabricates, installs, maintains and repairs research equipment. Sets up fixtures and identifies proper tools, tool lengths, spindle speeds and feed rates. Maintains a thorough knowledge of operating, repair and maintenance requirements for research equipment and instruments. Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches and schematic drawings. May assist faculty or staff with drawings or sketches for scientific publications. Prepares machinist drawings to assist in the construction of equipment. May use computer aided design (CAD) software to assist in design work. May write programs to operate computer numerical control machinery to produce difficult geometric shapes, close tolerance dimensions or small production operations. May perform welding operations using MIG, TIG, or stick. Diagnoses and resolves equipment and instrument problems and calibrates equipment. Inspects newly purchased, leased or loaned equipment and instruments. Purchases parts and supplies to maintain inventory. Abides by applicable federal and state regulations when working with hazardous chemicals, materials and equipment and uses personal protective equipment as required. May give work assignments to support staff and act as a resource to staff. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An associate's degree in machine tool technology or a related field, and two years of experience in the operation, repair and maintenance of machinery, electronics, research equipment or instrumentation.
