JOB DESCRIPTION: **This is a central university office position** Designs, plans, tests, installs, and maintains robust voice, data, and transport solutions for the Emory Enterprise. Supports a highly available, secure, and fast network to enable the business and to anticipate and plan for future needs. Evaluates and selects equipment, researches new feature and protocols, performs lab testing, sets installation and configuration standards and practices, trains staff and manages external connectivity. Integrates with Tier 1 and 2 networking services, security systems and management and monitoring systems. Provides subject matter expertise for Architecture and Engineering and serves as an escalation resource for UTS departments. Implements hardware, software and configuration changes, installs equipment, and performs troubleshooting, testing, scripting and coding. Maintains the network firewall infrastructure and maintains, designs and develops infrastructure used to provide core network services. Evaluates emerging technologies and assists with plan development for updating and upgrading the Enterprise. Meets with Architecture management and team members to identify new and evolving enterprise needs. Brainstorms and collaborates with team members to determine solutions. Documents and diagrams solutions to provide references. Performs solutions evaluations with Architecture management and team members to select the best designs. Tests new designs and communications protocols in the lab to determine viability. Leads network resource acquisition to support infrastructure deployment. Prepares and configures hardware for deployment to expand capacity and replace faulty equipment. Creates firewall rules and roles to meet enterprise-wide security group requirements and to support user connectivity. Designs and evaluates advanced enterprise network and architecture troubleshooting methodologies to ensure tools and processes are in place for solving complicated technical issues. Performs highly technical inspections of network protocols, packets, and layers to resolve key network and mission-critical application production issues. Provides technical assessments, reviews and recommendations to system administrators and applications owners to prevent outages, replace outdated and inefficient configurations and to enhance network reliability and efficiency. Participates in periodic training to enhance the collective capabilities and knowledge of UTS departments. Provides site-to-site configuration support to ensure successful system migrations and network device operability. Performs related responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor's degree in IT or related field and two years of relevant IT experience with servers and networks, OR and equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience. DATE CREATED/MODIFIED/REVIEWED: 11/11/10 JB
